Live @ Union Lane – The Gerry Richardson Organ Trio
An organ trio is a form of jazz ensemble consisting of three musicians; a Hammond organ player, a drummer, and either a jazz guitarist or a saxophone player …
Next up at Live@Union Lane on Friday July 29th is the Gerry Richardson Organ Trio.
It seems that there may be some confusion about what an organ trio is and to some people it seems to have conjured up memories of Reginald Dixon playing the organ at the Tower Ballroom in Blackpool from the 1930’s to the 1970’s – hence the Wikipedia explanation above.
Well Gerry Richardson’s set up could not be more different as in addition to himself on organ he has Gary Linsley on alto sax and Paul Smith on drums.
Gerry used to play a Hammond A100 (B3) organ but now uses a digital clone in the Crumar Mojo which, weighing in at a mere 40 pounds, is considerably lighter than the 400 pound Hammond and therefore much easier to transport around the country.
Gerry will be playing a mixture of Soul-Jazz, Blues, Latin, and West African music with accessible originals and covers of Gil Scot-Heron, Jimmy Witherspoon, Bill Withers, Mose Allison and Stevie Wonder.
Check out Gerry with one of his old band members making a guest appearance.
