SUMMARY:Philip Clouts Quartet
DESCRIPTION:Philip Clouts Quartet \nThe dancing exuberance of South African Township music\, the convivial groove of gospel-influenced soul jazz\, the joyful sway of Cuban guaguanco rhythms\, the bluesy melodies of middle eastern praise songs and so much more all come together in pianist Philip Clouts’ superbly accomplished quartet. \nClouts was born in Cape Town and the music of his homeland has stayed with him as he has continued on a voyage of discovery that has led him across all five continents\, soaking up Caribbean calypso and the soulful strains of the Indian subcontinent while honouring and learning from jazz heroes including Bill Evans\, Keith Jarrett\, and Charles Lloyd. \nAs a key member of the popular London-based world jazz ensemble Zubop and its offshoot ZubopGambia\, a collaboration with BBC World Music award-winner Juldeh Camara\, Clouts created a solid body of work with African roots and since moving to Dorset in 2006 he has responded to his new surroundings with impressionistic compositions that complement and chime with his world music interests\, resonating with folky themes and packing pungent rhythmical punch. \nFollowing on from the critically acclaimed releases Sennen Cove and The Hour of Pearl\, the new CD Umoya captures this wide-ranging music superbly and in concert\, Clouts\, saxophonist Samuel Eagles\, bassist Tim Fairhall and drummer Ted Carrasco bring it alive with tremendous imagination\, vim and vigour.

SUMMARY:Live @ Union Lane - The Gerry Richardson Organ Trio
DESCRIPTION:An organ trio is a form of jazz ensemble consisting of three musicians; a Hammond organ player\, a drummer\, and either a jazz guitarist or a saxophone player … \n  \nNext up at Live@Union Lane on Friday July 29th is the Gerry Richardson Organ Trio. \nIt seems that there may be some confusion about what an organ trio is and to some people it seems to have conjured up memories of Reginald Dixon playing the organ at the Tower Ballroom in Blackpool from the 1930’s to the 1970’s – hence the Wikipedia explanation above. \n  \nWell Gerry Richardson’s set up could not be more different as in addition to himself on organ he has Gary Linsley on alto sax and Paul Smith on drums. \nGerry used to play a Hammond A100 (B3) organ but now uses a digital clone in the Crumar Mojo which\, weighing in at a mere 40 pounds\, is considerably lighter than the 400 pound Hammond and therefore much easier to transport around the country. \nGerry will be playing a mixture of Soul-Jazz\, Blues\, Latin\, and  West African music with accessible originals and covers of Gil Scot-Heron\, Jimmy Witherspoon\, Bill Withers\, Mose Allison and Stevie Wonder. \n  \nCheck out Gerry with one of his old band members making a guest appearance. \nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPAmHdrVgyI \nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MarRF6vzxKw \nhttps://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=346012270559448
