SUMMARY:Planning for the future in Cumberland
DESCRIPTION:An opportunity to have a say on how land in the Cumberland area can be developed in the future is now available. \nCumberland Council is inviting comments on the first stage of a new Cumberland Local Plan. The Issues and Options consultation is a chance to tell the council about any of planning issues and opportunities in the Cumberland area. \nThey are also welcoming ideas regarding how planning policy might address them and have prepared two documents. \n\nThe main Issues and Options consultation document has a comprehensive set of detailed questions.\nThe Summary Issues and Options document contains the same topics as the Main document but asks more general questions about each.\n\nCllr Bob Kelly\, Executive Member for Policy and Regulatory Services\, said: \n“This the start of the process of creating a Local Plan for Cumberland. It will help co-ordinate and map how the area will grow in the future. \n“It’s important that our communities play a part in the development of the plan. Our consultation is an opportunity for anyone with an interest to tell us what they think about planning issues in their area.” \nThe responses to the public consultation will help develop the production of the draft Cumberland Local Plan. \nThe council is holding drop-in events across Cumberland\, with the opportunity to speak to council officers and ask questions. \nThe following drop-in events are planned: \n\nAspatria Library: Friday 29 September\, 11.30am – 3.30pm.\nBrampton Community Centre: Friday 12 September\, 12.30pm – 6.30pm.\nCarlisle The Lanes (East Tower Lane): Thursday 11 September\, 9.30am – 4.30pm and Friday 17 October\, 9.30am – 4.30pm.\nCleator Moor Civic Hall: Tuesday 16 September\, 9am – 12pm.\nCockermouth Library: Thursday 25 September\, 10.30am – 3.30pm.\nDalston Victory Hall: Tuesday 30 September\, 1.30pm – 7pm.\nEgremont Market Hall: Tuesday 23 September\, 10am – 4pm.\nFrizington Library: Monday 20 October\, 2.15pm – 4.45pm.\nLongtown Library: Monday 6 October\, 1.30pm – 4.30pm.\nMaryport Town Hall: Thursday 2 October 9.30am – 4.30pm.\nMillom Tin Chapel: Wednesday 8 October\, 10am – 3pm.\nSilloth Library: Wednesday 22 October\, 11am – 3pm.\nWhitehaven United Reform Church: Thursday 16 October 10.30am – 4.30pm.\nWigton Market Hall: Monday 13 October\, 9.30am – 4.30pm.\nWorkington Carnegie Theatre: Thursday 18 September\, 9.30am – 4pm.\n\nThe consultation documents\, an easy to use online questionnaire\, and a list of Frequently Asked Questions are available at https://www.cumberland.gov.uk/local-plan \nConsultation on the Issues and Options for the Cumberland Local Plan will run between Monday 1 September and Friday 31 October 2025. \nOur preferred method for receiving responses is via the online questionnaire alternatively you can email any comments to: planningpolicy@cumberland.gov.uk  or send them by post to: Chris Hoban\, Planning Policy Team\, Cumberland Council\, Civic Centre\, Carlisle\, CA3 8QG.
