SUMMARY:Wall.three.words Creative Writing Workshop 1
DESCRIPTION:Join award winning poet\, James Oates\, on this Creative Writing Workshop for the wall.three.words project. \nWall.three.words is a community arts project happening this Autumn at Brampton Community Centre as part of the HW1900 yearlong festival.  The project celebrates 1900 years of Hadrian’s Wall – its history\, its place in our landscape\, our community and status as a World Heritage UNESCO site – through poetry and art.  The project utilises the What3words app* as a basis for creative inspiration around the Lanercost to Birdoswald section of the Wall and culminates in November with an exhibition of artwork\, poetry and film developed by the community. \nIn this introductory workshop\, James will explain how to use the What3words app and how to apply it to writing a short form poem about Hadrian’s Wall.  There will be examples and exercises to try before choosing your 3m square and its randomly generated words.  This is the first of two workshops and will lead to an exhibition featuring your poetry on page and/or film. \nJames Oates is an award-winning performance poet with a reputation in the North of England for quality performances on the poetry circuit over 25 years including representing the Northeast in the 2009 Radio 4 Poetry Slam Semi-finals.  His publications include Ripples in the Dreampool (Hybrid\, 1995)\, Wideyback (Red Squirrel Press)\, Metropacity (Talking Pen\, 2009)\, Sediment & Sentiment a Poetry/Art collaboration with artist Barrie West (Talking Pen\, 2010).  He works in collaboration with artists and has had exhibitions around the Northeast and Cornwall as well as exhibiting in South Korea\, Brussels and Gerlingen.  He has run many poetry workshops and is sought as a mentor for upcoming poets helping many on their way to success. \n  \n*Every 3-metre square in the world has been given three words to make it quick and easy to pinpoint a precise location.  The words have been randomly generated and will never change. \nTickets are available here: https://www.trybooking.co.uk/BWHI \, or from Brampton Community Centre \nSuitable for absolute beginners to intermediates
